Abstract
“Do you want an article on library ceilings for NLW? Please ring…” said the message left by the phone. Instant perception that on the other side of most library ceilings was a library floor. Silently intoned (own) library school lecture in its admirable and brief entirety: “The function of library floors is to help keep the walls apart and prevent all the books and readers falling into the basement.”
