The Shallow end
Abstract
WILLIAM BELOE, in the year 1803, was appointed Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum. The department in those days also included prints and drawings and, unfortunately for Beloe, an unscrupulous character called Dighton had a mind to purloin some of them.
