Abstract
INSTALLATION of a Symonds DMS D.Log off‐line programming system and D.NeT DNC network to serve 33 CNC machine tools has allowed Lucas Aerospace Ltd.'s Power Systems Division at Hemel Hempstead to eliminate punched tape from its machining operations. By so doing the system has freed manufacturing engineers to concentrate on process efficiency improvement; it has also eliminated the possibility of tape mis‐reads, enhanced the security of part programme information and assured round‐the‐clock availability of up‐do‐date programmes. In the medium term future a direct link to the company's CAD system will be used to simplify input of component geometry.
