Abstract
DEVELOPMENT of a computer integrated design and manufacturing route by Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company has reduced the time needed and lowered the cost for production of master models for aircraft wing skin panels. Major improvements in accuracy have also been achieved. At the company's factory in Marietta, Georgia, the technique has been applied to the machining of master models for the USAF's new C17 transport aircraft using a Butler Newall HE‐type Elgamill computer controlled milling and boring machine with a 17m long bed.
