Developing Maintenance Programmes

Abstract

ONE of the topics discussed at a recent conference on European Aviation focussed attention on the beneficial effects that effective maintenance programmes will have on an airline's finances. A well‐maintained aircraft will exhibit a high degree of technical reliability from the buyers and operators perspective. Airline maintenance is of curse, strictly controlled and before an operator can commence operations, a mass of legal constraints must be complied with and a sure way of overcoming these problems is to contract all maintenance requirements to an Approve Maintenance Organisation, which are invariably approved by the FAA or CAA as well as the regulatory authority of the particular country. Aer Lingus is such an organisation which is currently approved by 12 different authorities.
