Abstract
Aircraft are no longer designed at a drafting board but with the aid of a screen, light pen and computer. This new development in the history of European civil aircraft construction has been introduced by MBB in the design of the Airbus A320. Complete large components, parts, metal and plastic structures and even the smallest of sheet‐metal details and fasteners are drawn on a screen. Drawing data are stored in a computer and on magnetic tape for use as engineering documents and are then duplicated by microfilm or printed out on paper.
