Abstract

Through a combination of the resources of two large companies in 1977, Dowty Smiths Industries Controls (DSIC) has been in the forefront of the development and production of advanced engine systems and accessories. Prior to the formation of DSIC, early collaboration involving both hydromechanical and electronic technology had been undertaken which led to development programmes for the production of full authority digital engine controls. Similar research had also been carried out by Dowty in co‐operation with Ultra Electronics (now part of the former company). Ultra in fact, had produced the analogue system for control of Concorde's Olympus 593 turbojets.
