Abstract
In this series of articles, I shall be looking at the past, present, and future of civil aviation safety. The remote past record is of interest, if only to show the giant strides which have been taken in securing safety since the inception of air transport in the early 1920's. The most recent past is of more significance as it provides the best technical indication of where we stand today. The future is perhaps the most interesting of all, but of course facts have to give way to speculation.
