Abstract
The flow of cooling air is controlled by pivoted shutters 3 which, when operated, take up the positions shown dotted, the shutters opposite the base of the cylinders moving faster than those opposite the heads. The shutters may be adjustably and resiliently coupled to chains or cables 41, 42, stops being provided for the closed positions. Alternatively, they may be connected and controlled by bevel gearing. Operation may be manual, by a cable 6, or thermal, by means placed on the walls of a cylinder, or at the exit of a casing 1, and acting through a relay or servomotor. Baffles may cause the air to circulate round the cylinders.
