Confidentiality — Friend or Foe?
Abstract
In the realm of public and consumer awareness a more open attitude of government towards confidentiality is needed, whereas in the industrial sphere confidentiality is needed to maintain a healthy competitive and innovative spirit. The difficulty in defining confidentiality is discussed and cases in which confidentiality works for and against the public interest. Specific reference is made to the use of confidentiality in the oil business.
