NATIONAL DOCUMENT SUPPLY AND CATALOGUE ENTRY SUPPLY

Abstract

The article asks the question why is there a truly national service for document supply but not for document descriptions. It concludes that this is because the document supply service was guided by experimental evidence but that the development of bibliographical services has been guided mainly by tradition and the opinions of librarians.
