THE DESIGN OF STEEL STRUCTURES AND PROTECTIVE MEASURES WITH CORROSION IN MIND

Abstract

Iron and steel, like most other common metals, tend to combine with substances present in the atmosphere and revert to compounds from which they have been derived. To prevent this it is essential that efficient protection should be given. Deterioration can be prevented by a knowledge of modern methods of protection and by careful attention to design, and if notice is taken of good practice and correct procedure, structural steelwork can be made to last almost indefinitely.
