CORROSION RESEARCH ROUND‐UP
Abstract
Combustion gas corrosion and air‐preheater deposits. Air‐preheater corrosion in oil‐firing boilers has been the subject of many research workers, but mention has scarcely been made on the relationship between corrosion and deposits. Corrosion phenomena have been investigated by the analysis of the deposits by the use of chemical and physical methods, i.e. x‐ray diffraction and infrared spectroanalysis. Results are summarised as follows: (1) With decrease in the surface temperature, corrosion rate and acid deposition on metal surface are highly increased, which seems to be different from results by D. H. Kear, who observed a peak in the corrosion rate. (2) A correlation exists between free acid contents (or Fe2+/Fe3+) and combustible residue contents in the deposits.—T. Ohtsuka and O.
