Measuring Corrosion with Ultrasonic Gauges
Abstract
The most expensive part of a corrosion survey is neither the labour involved nor the replacement materials used, but the cost of shutting the plant down to enable it to be opened up for inspection. In the interests of safety, periodic checks cannot be eliminated, but instruments have recently become available which make it possible to measure the thickness of materials of which only one side is accessible, such as the walls of tanks and vessels, pipes and boilers and similar structures, thus greatly speeding up plant maintenance.
