A PROFITABLE SOLUTION TO UNPROFITABLE SUPERMARKET TRADING: SHOPPERS PARADISE
Abstract
A feature of the grocery scene in the UK has been the increasing plight of the medium‐size supermarket situated in the High Street. What can these supermarkets do? Fine Fare came up with one solution: turning them into limited‐range discount stores, with cut‐case merchandising, no price‐marking, and rationalised staff. They call it Shoppers Paradise. They are now pushing close to the 100 mark. This feature is based on an interview by the Editor of RDM with Brian Baylis, Shoppers Paradise Director.
