The B.B.C. Libraries
Abstract
The British Broadcasting Corporation has seven main library services:—a) Gramophone Library, b) Music Libraries, c) Recorded Programmes Libraries, d) Radio Times Hulton Picture Library, e) Film Library, f) Scripts Libraries, g) Reference Library, In addition there are certain other services of the Corporation that add to the sources of information, notably:—h) News Information Services, i) Registry, including Archives, j) Natural History Library, k) Engineering Training Library. All these services are autonomous, although day‐to‐day co‐operation is a matter of course. The main libraries are all based on London, but at each of the main Regional centres—Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol and Belfast—there are smaller counterparts of most of these services: these are the responsibility of the Regions, though very close liaison is maintained between the Regional and the London libraries. Thus the Midland Region Reference Library at Birmingham has a strong collection of books on agriculture which is constantly used by other Regions.
