Abstract

Traditionally January is the month for looking back over the previous year and for making new resolutions for the future (quite often it is a recurring set of resolutions). The January issue of this periodical was prepared long before the year ended and the last few days of December and the first day of January are seldom propitious for a sober consideration of the main events of the previous twelve months. The middle of January is a better time: cold air has cleared the brain: the thought of food and drink no longer faintly nauseates: we have time to look back.
