Abstract

MOST cold‐reduced steel strip either in coils or sheets, is shipped from the steel mill with a coating of oil for surface protection. This oil is most conveniently applied to the strip at a final coating stage in the continuous production process (e.g. at exit from the temper mill). Commonly, direct application is made only to the upper surface, reliance being placed on the ‘printing‐over’ effect in the tight coil to cover the lower surface.
