Composite‐coated steel

Abstract

Sheet steel with a composite coating of vapour‐deposited aluminium over zinc has a salt‐spray life equivalent to that of hot‐dip galvanized steel, but with a smoother surface to which paint adheres well. The material is readily worked and joined without loss of properties; is of particular interest for car bodies, though production is not yet on a commercial scale.
