OPTIMAL DETERMINATION OF DOSAGE IN PARKINSON'S DISEASE
Abstract
In order to offset the symptoms of Parkinson's disease, the physician suggests a set‐trajectory for the concentration of a substance called L‐DOPA in the plasma. To attain this set‐trajectory a pill with the trademark Madopar is administered to the patient. The doses and timings of the pills have so far been determined in a more or less heuristic manner. In this paper methods of the system theory are used to compute the optimal doses and the timings. Different methods are worked out and applied on four different patients. In all four cases the computed treatments are found to be superior to the ones suggested by the physician.
