Nine‐to‐Five…Going…Going…?
Abstract
The vast majority of managers, men and women, would probably answer the question in the article's title by asserting that, for them, ‘nine‐to‐five’ working has never existed. For much of the labour force, however, set working hours have been the norm, and this applies to both white‐collar and blue‐collar workers. Future changes in working patterns are inevitable because of an increasing desire of both men and women to integrate work and family life in a more satisfactory way and technological developments which threaten to make the changes of the last ten years appear very minor.
