A different approach in assembly technology
34
Abstract
HAVING taken a back seat for a while development of assembly technology has again started to move forward. But, now there is a different approach; it is being treated as a strategic issue. The problem in the past has been one of cost justification: assembly cells have been treated as islands and as such compare no better than manual assembly in terms of productivity. And, with the cost of automation equipment significantly higher the return is much lower.
