Creative Career Information and Development

Charles Kramer (Career Information Center, World Bank/International Finance Corporation Charles Kramer, a French national, and a clinical and industrial psychologist by training, is currently Manager, Training and Development Division, Career Information Center. His unit is part of the Personnel Management Department in the Washington‐based World Bank/International Finance Corporation, with over 6,000 staff from roughly a hundred countries. Since 1960 he has carried human resources management functions within three multinational corporations. Nestlé, Rank Xerox and ITT. A member of professional societies, including the International Association for Applied Psychology, he was the first Honorary Secretary of the European Association for Personnel Management for six years. Abstract

The Career Information Center of the World Bank is described, with its facilities for self‐assessment, workshops and one‐on‐one interviews to answer career questions. It is emphasised that flexibility and self‐responsibility are needed as aids to individual action. A computer based approach as well as more traditional methods are illustrated.
