Abstract

In July 1985, the Training Development Department of British Gas completed a thorough one‐year evaluation of computer‐based training (CBT) and found considerable long‐term benefits which overcame many of the problems of traditional training. One of the main advantages was flexibility. Distance learning allows people to work at their own pace, without the stress of a traditional classroom environment. Line managers find it easier and more acceptable to slot training into the work schedule, rather than having to release people to go to a training unit.
