CMI International, manufacturer of test and measurement instruments for production environments and industrial manufacturing processes, have introduced the CMI 900 Series X-ray Fluorescence System (Plate 7).

The new system represents a significant leap forward in CMI coating thickness measurement and material composition analysis technology say the company. New software and hardware advancements have enhanced the performance of the X-ray product line. CMI 900 Series units can now perform assay of gold or other precious metals. Measurement of extremely thin immersion coatings (Ag, Au, Pd, Sn, etc.) and/or thin films, are now possible. Material sorting and measurement of titanium nitride layers can be performed. Printed circuit board and electronic component manufacturers, as well as metal finishing professionals will also benefit from these technological advancements.

Most of these advancements can be attributed to CMI's new comprehensive Fundamental Parameters software. Smartlink FP provides unprecedented precision and accuracy of elemental analysis, which enables the measurement of the widest array of applications, in addition to multiple layers. This new system makes calibrations for measurement effortless, differentiates between materials with similar spectral peaks and eliminates substrate dependent background inaccuracies.

To make the most of your measurements, CMI provides an information management tool that turns your data into desktop publishing quality reports. SmartDocs provides the user with a fast and simple way to graphically display data and print custom reports directly from measurements made with SmartLink FP.

The reports can contain text, images, graphics, statistics, charts and tables. They can be used to display production data, quality information, meet ISO/QSO reporting requirements or to provide process certification for customers.

Information is selected either from the database, by using one or more data fields as filters for a query, or directly from application specific readings. The data that are chosen can be arranged in a user defined report format consisting of any combination of tables, text, graphics, images, statistics and charts. Once created, a report format can be saved as a template. The template can be recalled at any time to print new data and also used to speed-up and simplify the creation of new reports.

Graphics such as a company logo, engineering drawings or screen-captured images of the part being measured can be imported and displayed with the click of a mouse. Custom text, page numbers, borders and special effects, such as highlighting objects with background colors can also be included using icons on the toolbar.
