This well-conducted review using individual patient data compared the long-term effects of sirolimus-eluting stents and bare-metal stents in people with coronary artery disease. The authors found no difference in overall long-term survival or survival free of myocardial infarction between the two stents. The need for reintervention was reduced with sirolimus-eluting stents, but the risk of thrombosis was no less. These conclusions are likely to be reliable.
