Thorite targets efficiency at Robin Hood Academy
Article Type: Equipment and software From: Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology: An International Journal, Volume 80, Issue 5
One of the UK’s leading supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite, has supplied an HPC 37 kw variable speed drive compressor package (Figure 2) to the new £12 m Directions Finningley Aviation Academy at Doncaster’s Robin Hood airport.
The new compressor was chosen because of its ability to seamlessly increase or diminish its compressed air output, to accommodate fluctuations in demand, which results in outstanding energy efficiency.
A variety of air tools and pneumatic machinery are powered by the compressor, enabling trainee aviation engineers to gain experience working on “live” aircraft.
The aviation Academy was opened in January and occupies a 55,000 ft2 hangar, plus a purpose built two-storey lecture rooms facility.
Over 150 aviation-related courses are available, making it the first in the UK to offer such a wide range of training and employer support in a working airport environment.
