Site supply helps get Vulcan kids get off to a flyer

As part of its ongoing national Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Stockport-based Site Supply Company (Site Supply), the UK’s leading supplier of hi-visibility workwear and site equipment, has supplied the education and access team at the Vulcan to the Sky Trust (VTST) with 40 hi-vis vests.

The Trust, which has its base at the Bruntingthorpe Airfield in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, has been the driving force behind the ongoing restoration and return to flight of the world’s only remaining flying Vulcan Bomber and as education manager, Miriam Tong, explains, the donation has helped the organisation to comply with health and safety regulations: “We welcome up to 32 children in each visiting party and have to comply with a whole host of regulations,” she explains.

“Child protection is paramount and much as there are additional staff, volunteers and other essential workers on-site, we rely on group leaders and responsible visiting adults to directly supervise pupils at all times. Linked to that is the requirement for everybody concerned to wear hi-visibility clothing to ensure that they can be clearly seen by anybody working around the airfield. The vests are a huge help in that and we’re very grateful to everyone at Site Supply for their support.”

VTST special projects co-ordintor, Colin McNeil, is quick to detail how the donation came about, explaining: “Last year, when we had a requirement for a number of items ranging from everyday Health and Safety equipment to branded bomber jackets, we found Site Supply on the internet and they were quick and highly professional in their response.”

“The items they supplied were of the highest quality and the relationship started from there. However, being a charity, we are always looking for companies who may be able to help us on various levels and when we approached Site Supply sales director, Steve Cree, with a request for some hi-visibility wear for our Education and Access team, he was only too pleased to help.”

Steve comments: “Everyone at Site Supply has been hugely impressed with the work done by the VTST, not only in bringing a piece of history to life but in educating so many school children along the way, ensuring that an important piece of British heritage is kept alive for many years to come.”

“We are always looking for ways to help out in the community on both a local and a national scale and are delighted to help Colin and the team at VTST. We will be happy to continue the relationship long into the future.”

Vulcan XH558 was purchased from the Ministry of Defence in 1993, since when many thousands of man hours have gone into the painstaking restoration of what is a superb piece of British engineering. The plane will feature in several air shows around the country this summer.
