Edgecam 11.5 provides major speed and productivity benefits

EdgeCAM has announced the immediate availability of EdgeCAM 11.5 – the latest release of its advanced CNC offline programming system.

Claiming time savings of up to 50 percent in the generation of cutter toolpaths, the latest EdgeCAM release delivers a wealth of new functionality to support machining on both traditional and latest generation multi-axis machines.

EdgeCAM 11.5 further expands the application's established multi-axis simultaneous machining strategies. Improvements to the system's five-axis capabilities help to streamline the programming of machines with standard or complex table configurations, for example, nutated tables (Figure 2).

New in version 11.5 is a five-axis roughing capability that addresses the machining requirements of industries such as aerospace and automotive. Manufacturing flexibility is increased by new multiple pass and multiple depth options, which can be applied individually or in combination for the generation of multiple roughing passes – plus finishing cuts if required. In addition, the order of these passes is user-defined, offering greater toolpath control.

Version 11.5's enhanced rest finishing cycle focuses on optimising toolpath generation by offering a new strategy that automatically selects the most appropriate toolpath for steep or shallow finishing operations – ensuring optimum workpiece surface finish.

Hole machining has been streamlined with the introduction of new feature finding enhancements, which provide support for O-ring groove machining and help to better define the termination of holes. In addition, new easy-to-use hole operations for milling and turning have been introduced.

EdgeCAM's Part Modeler 3D modelling tool is specifically designed for fast and accurate construction or editing of solid models. Version 11.5 sees the introduction of a new user- friendly interface, incorporating customisable menus and toolbars with advanced features such as flyouts and extended tooltips. It is entirely consistent with other EdgeCAM modules and is both intuitive and easy to use, providing a smooth and seamless transition from design to manufacture.

Further enhancements in EdgeCAM 11.5 include the significantly faster toolpath simulation. EdgeCAM Simulator is the system's state-of-the- art visualisation tool, providing a realistic representation of the complete machine tool and cutting cycle. It is particularly useful for the simulation of five-axis, surface and helical toolpaths, enabling users to prove out programs off-line and move into production faster.
