A new training centre for regional airline aircrews and technical personnel has been established at the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. Designated CROSSCAT, it is a joint venture between Crossair, the Swiss regional airline, and GE Capital Aviation Training (GECAT), which specialises in the training of aviation personnel.

CROSSCAT is starting with the training of pilots, cabin crew members and technical personnel, particularly for Saab and Embraer types. It is said to be currently the only company providing training for the Saab 2000 jetprop. In addition, it is one of the only two training companies selected for the new Embraer RJ-170 and RJ-190 regional jets, which will enter service in 2002. There will be space for 14 flight simulators in the new training facility, currently under expansion, situated at the EuroAirport Bsel-Mulhouse-Freiburg.

As a result of the take-over of the training centre, hitherto run by Crossair, CROSSCAT will benefit from the outset from existing contracts. Many of the clients taken over from Crossair are well-known airlines from around the world. Over the coming years, the objective is to broaden the base of clients taken over from Crossair and to rapidly become one of the leading training centres for regional aviation.
