Techspace Aero (TA), situated in Herstal (Milmort), near Liège, Eastern Belgium, recently hosted the AS977 Airline Advisory Board quarterly meeting held by Honeywell Engines & Systems with the potential customers of the newly developed AS977 engine to power the Avro RXJ aircraft family from BAe Systems.

Representatives of ten airlines from Europe and the Far East attended the Board meeting conducted by Honeywell Engines & Systems with the assistance of BAe Systems.

Techspace Aero had the opportunity to show the airline visitors its general production and engineering capabilities and its specific activity regarding the AS900 programme.

It is also reported that Honeywell Engines & Systems had signed a long-term agreement for the development, production and maintenance of the AS900 engine family dedicated to power business and general aviation jets.

The agreement is substantiated by the production of turbine disks and blades which was begun earlier last year at Techspace Aero. TA delivered the first set of parts to Honeywell Engines & Systems on 30 May 2000. In the meantime, Techspace Aero is conducting engine development tests in its Liers test centre, close to its Milmort HQ and manufacturing plant.

The first AS900 engine arrived from Tempe, Arizona, on 13 June 2000 and tests have started in TA's specially adapted test cell.
