1.5 million investment

Keywords WB Machining, Machine tools

WB Machining Services, based in Warwickshire, UK, a Hampson Industries company, informs us that it has invested another £500,000 in new machine tools to enhance its lead in high-precision specialised metal machining.

The investment, we are told, covers the acquisition of a Charmilles Roboform 50 CNC Electro Discharge Machine (EDM) and a Mitsubishi EX22 four-axis CNC EDM centre. EDM employs electricity through a specifically-shaped carbon tool to erode the material. It is a very accurate and fast method of machining which leaves a smooth surface finish. The technique is particularly applicable to complex aircraft components where the need for fine detail would confound a conventional milling machine. Fast hole drilling by EDM can also be carried out.

The new machines bring to 22 the number of EDM machines employed. The company believes that this confirms its strategy to become a leading player in the European aerospace and defence markets for this technology.
