The British-designed wings for the A340-500 and the largest Airbus yet, the A340-600, have been granted "Millennium Product status" by the Design Council after the Prime Minister Tony Blair challenged businesses to show that Britain is the creative powerhouse of the world.

The news was announced by the UK Trade and Industry Secretary Peter Mandelson at the recent CBI conference in Birmingham, UK. The A340-500/600 wings designed by British Aerospace Airbus engineers have proved yet another feat in engineering excellence for the team based in Filton, Bristol.
