Prevention rather than correction when it comes to corrosion protection says FT Pipeline Systems

Article Type: Industrial news From: Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials, Volume 59, Issue 2

The prevention of corrosion is of paramount importance when implementing a new network of steel pipes in order to prevent the need for future maintenance according to FT Pipeline Systems, the leading provider of steel and ductile iron pipes to the UK construction industry.

During the initial pipe creation process, each pipe is given a lining and coating as a means of preventing any damage whilst a pipe is in service. Service damage can be common within pipe networks, particularly those that are buried underground in rough terrain, or indeed those transporting chemically volatile materials.

FT Pipeline Systems has indicated that pipe lining and coating is always a core aspect of their pipe building process, with multiple types of lining and coating available for myriad different pipe network scenarios. Both are an essential pre-requisite in maintaining the trouble free operation of each network.

Duncan Frazer, CEO of FT Pipeline Systems, said: “Pipe lining and coating are two of the most important aspects we consider whenever we develop pipes for a network. We are always careful to ensure we understand the requirements of each network we develop and of course the nature of the environment the network will be installed in.

“For many underground networks, corrosion protection is absolutely critical in ensuring that repairs aren’t required further down the line, since this will almost certainly result in a significant cost. We’d always advise that such issues are prevented at the outset.”

FT Pipeline Systems has been a leading provider of steel pipes for the UK water and construction industries for over 25 years. The company also provides a wide range of advanced pipe joints, valves, couplings and other pipe fittings, as well as a range of canusa heat-shrink jointing sleeves, arguably the best seals for straight runs, junctions and bends in pipe networks.
