JPCL India to launch in July
JPCL India to launch in July
JPCL has signed an agreement with corrosion and coatings veteran Mukul Gupta (Bombay, India) to launch a regional edition, JPCL India, for the rapidly growing community of coatings professionals in India and the Middle East, according to Mr Gupta and JPCL president Harold Hower, interviewed at PACE 2007 in Dallas, TX.
JPCL India will be a monthly publication. It will include technical articles and news from JPCL as well as content specific to the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East. Start-up is scheduled for July 2007. JPCL India will be published under the auspices of a new organization in India, the Institute for Advancement in Corrosion Technology (I-ACT).
The agreement is a response to strong demand in the Indian paint industry, which is growing at an annual rate of approximately 17 percent, said Mr Gupta. The growth reflects India's strong economy, which itself is expanding at a rate of 8-10 percent, he noted. High-performance coatings are needed to protect India's fast-rising infrastructure, which includes refineries, public works facilities, chemical plants, and other industrial structures to support the new economy.
Also new to the Indian paint industry is a strong emphasis on coatings durability, which calls for a large Indian workforce trained and skilled in the use of high-performance coatings. India will not be the only beneficiary of the coatings community. “India provides the bulk of the workforce for applying protective and marine coatings in the Middle East,” said Mr Gupta.
JPCL has a 23-year tradition of promoting education and information exchange at all levels of the high- performance coatings industry. JPCL India is part of a “comprehensive initiative to elevate the Indian paint industry,” said Mr Hower. “The intention is to have conferences and continuing education programs in connection with JPCL.”
Mr Gupta has 25 years of experience in the corrosion and coatings profession. A member of NACE and SSPC, he chaired NACE India from 1999 to 2002 and has served the NACE section in other capacities as well. He teaches coatings courses in the Continuing Education Program of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology. Mr Hower, a former teacher, founded Technology Publishing Company in 1984 when he launched JPCL. Most recently, he launched the Journal of Architectural Coatings (JAC). He is also the founder of PaintSquare.com, the electronic home of JPCL, JAC, and a variety of electronic services for contractors, facility owners, specifiers, and others in the coatings industry.
