Shipyard panel issues recommendations to OSHA

The Maritime Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (MACOSH) is recommending that OSHA provide additional funding to assist in the distribution of Spanish language fatality videos and DVDs. The animated videos for those shipyard workers with no English language skills were originally developed with a grant from the Navy. MACOSH would also like to partner with OSHA in outreach and awareness to encourage shipyard employers to sponsor English-as-a- Second-Language courses. The group also hopes to work with OSHA to expand the shipyard e-tool to cover health hazards and to provide the Shipbuilders Council of America with better input on its quarterly injury and illness reports.
