International Protective Coatings light up Turin
In addition to supplying coatings for the Summer Olympics at Sydney (2000), Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), International Protective Coatings were also selected to supply coatings for the recent Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
International Protective Coatings products were applied to steelwork in the roof of the main Turin Olympic stadium, which was used to stage the opening and closing ceremonies. International Protective Coatings also provided a heat resistant paint system for the huge Olympic Torch, which burned at the venue throughout the games.
The famous torch provided the biggest challenge, with two different paint systems being supplied. The base and the first 52m of the shaft were coated with the same system used on the main stadium roof, while the top 5m was specified with heat-resistant products.
The 57m high torch (roughly equivalent to a 20 storey building) is visible from all parts of the city of Turin.
The Oval Lingotto arena, which staged the speed-skating events was also coating with International Protective Coatings products, including the Intercure®, Interthane®, and Interzinc® brands.
