Cabot Corporation has expanded its range of fumed alumina post-extrusion additives for powder coatings with the addition of a super-fine cationic grade with a high-surface area.
SpectrAle 100, which has a surface area of 95 m2/g, provides very effective fluidisation performance at loadings as low as 0.1 per cent by weight in epoxy-polyester, polyester-TGIC and other resin systems. Coatings incorporating the material have been shown to improve productivity for end users, reduce down-time caused by flow problems and allow lower fluidisation pressures to be used, which reduces costs.
As a cationic material, the new grade also increases the positive charge in tribo-static powder coating formulations, and good results can even be achieved in difficult-to-charge materials with loadings of only 0.2-0.3 per cent by weight.
The new material joins Cabot's existing fumed alumina grades, SpectrAl 51 and SpectrAl 81, to provide powder coating manufacturers with a comprehensive choice of post-extrusion additives.
