Scottish Galvanizers Ltd puts Falkirk FC on track for premier league goal

Scottish football club Falkirk FC has completed the second phase of its major new stadium building programme, with the help of Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, part of the Wedge Group – the UK's largest independent galvanizing specialists.

As proud champions-elect of the Bell's Scottish League First Division, and certainties for promotion to the Bank of Scotland Scottish Premier League next season, Falkirk FC's second new grandstand at the northern end of the ground will boost the crowd capacity by a further 2,200 to around 6,500 (Plate 2).

Scottish Galvanizers Ltd was awarded the contract to complete the galvanizing of 100 tonnes of structural steel for the newest stand, including the roof section, by Newton Fabrications of Ayr. Last year Scottish Galvanizers, based in Glasgow successfully galvanized the steel beams for the impressive two-tier, 4,200-seater west stand at the new Falkirk Stadium which was opened in 2004 and is described in a ground survey on the internet as “one of the best new stands constructed in Britain for some years”.

Paul Cameron, Sales Manager of Scottish Galvanizers Ltd, says: “We're delighted to have successfully gained this contract for the second new stand at Falkirk FC. It is a tribute to everyone at the company who worked on galvanizing the steel for the first stand and we are all looking forward to seeing this next phase of the stadium reach completion”.

Falkirk FC were prevented from joining the Scottish Premier League despite winning the 2001-2002 First Division title because its original ground was not suitable. The plan at the new Falkirk Stadium is for the building of four stands which would eventually give the club a total capacity of around 13,000.
