International Coatings has been awarded a USD 5 million contract to coat the Exxon "Kizomba", a new building FPSO, at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea.

International Paint (Korea) or IPK secured the coating of the hull area where over 50,000 tonnes of steel will be coated with over 1 million litres of paint, making this the largest single project ever for the company.

Exxon specified a premium product for more than half of the total volume of paint required and decided to use Intershield 300 due to its excellent performance and track record, Intersmooth Ecoloflex SPC, Interline 850, Interline 925, Interzinc 52 and Interzinc 52.

The contract was awarded following strong teamwork between IPK and the protective coating team at IP Houston. J.S. Kang, Sales Director, S.I. Kim, Sales Manager, and S.J. Lee, Sales Manager, of IPK worked closely with Hyundai Heavy Industries whilst Ian Rowell, Vice President, PC Marketing and Technical for the Americas and Larry McConathy, Co-ordinator, PC Offshore, provided Exxon with a presentation detailing the benefits and life expectancy of Intershield 300.

The project begins at the end of this year with the vessel scheduled for delivery in mid-2004 when it will be deployed in Exxon Mobil's "Kizomba A" field off Angola. The FPSO will be capable of processing 25,000 barrels of oil per day and will have a 2.2 million barrel storage capacity.
