DuPont Performance Coatings and Korea (Kumgang) Chemical Company (KCC), Ltd have signed a technical cooperation agreement relating to DuPont's automotive OEM coatings technology and application know-how.
Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed. However, it is based on a working relationship between the two companies that has been in place for 20 years involving a technical license agreement covering electrodeposition primer coatings.
"We are pleased to form this agreement with such a growing and capable coatings supplier in Korea", said John R. Lewis, Vice President and General Manager for DuPont Performance Coatings. This agreement will allow us to collaborate and promote the use of advanced technologies that are required to meet the automotive industry's worldwide performance and environmental standards".
"This agreement with DuPont, a world leader in automotive coatings, will permit us to more rapidly strengthen our technical capabilities as we meet the needs of Korean automobile manufacturers that are rapidly expanding operations around the world", said M.J. Chung, Chairman of KCC.
KCC is the largest automotive coatings supplier in Korea and is a primary coatings supplier to Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motor Company. DuPont is recognized as the world leader in automotive topcoat technology. DuPont has pioneered in developing coatings to meet the increasing customer satisfaction and environmental mandates throughout the world with the leading auto manufacturers in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Recent DuPont automotive coatings technology introductions have included lead- and tin-free electrodeposition, waterborne and powder primers; waterborne basecoats and new protective clear coat technology that can offer ultra-low emissions application and improved scratch and mar resistance.
