Corus Tubes has extended its Celsius hot finished structural hollow sections (SHS) range with large circular hollow sections (CHS) produced at its 84in. Stockton Mill.
The size range now goes right up to 2,134mm diameter and the large sizes are not volume-sensitive. Corus Tubes states that, given due notice, it can make any amount in lengths of 6 to 9mm (or multiples thereof, up to a maximum of 27mm) from its SAW (submerged arc 6 to 9) mill on Teesside.
"In fact we always have been able to make the large CHS to special order but we are now formalising the range with the new LCHS Sizes and Properties brochure outlining the capability of this mill", explains Eddie Hole, technical marketing manger at Corus Tubes.
"Part of the reason for publishing the new product information is a trend towards the use of larger diameters in structural applications including concrete-filled CHS columns. These larger sizes can offer a substantial increase in load capacity and fire protection," adds Eddie Hole.
Corus now markets one of the world's largest ranges of high quality, competitively priced SHS. Large Celsius hot finished SHS (to EN 10210) are available from 457mm diameter to 2,134mm diameter with wall thicknesses from 6.4mm to 28.6mm, although the full Celsius hot finished CHS range starts at 21.3 diameter x 3.2.
Large CHS Celsius hollow sections are produced in two standard yield of 275N/mm2 and 355N/mm2. Two standard Charpy impact minimum values of 27J at –20°C and 27J at 0°C are available. The grades correspond to EN 10210 S275J2H, EN 10210 S275J0H and EN 10210 S355J2H, EN 10210 S355J0H.
