EDX10 probe for the measurement of Duplex coatings (1302)
EDX10 probe for the measurement of Duplex coatings (1302)
Keywords: Fischer Technology, Coatings, Probes
The new EDX10 probe from Fischer Technology is believed to be especially suited for the measurement of duplex coatings paint on zinc or steel substrate.
The thickness values for both paint and zinc coatings measured by the EDX10 are simultaneously displayed on the hand-held instrument screen. Plated as well as hot-dipped zinc coatings can be measured. The presence of a diffusion layer has no reported effect on the EDX10's reading.
The EDX10 can only be connected to the portable, hand-held Fischer DUALSCOPE(r) MP20 with software version RAA13 or higher, as well as the Fischer DUALSCOPE-MP40 with software version RBA13 or higher.
A key application of the EDX10 is said to be duplex coatings on steel sheets for the automotive industry or for household appliances, where typical coating thicknesses are zinc 0.6-0.85 mils (15-30µm) and paint 0.8-2 mils (20-50µm).
Another primary application is measuring duplex coatings on steel constructions such as power supply masts, railings, and containers, where typical coating thicknesses are zinc 3.2-12 mils (80-300µm) and paint 2.8-6 mils (70-150µm).
The measurement of similar double coatings, with an intermediate metallic layer other than zinc, is only possible with the EDX10 Probe if the electrical conductivity of the other metallic layer is comparable to that of zinc. Measurements on steel or iron of a zinc coating less than 0.6 mils (15µm) thick yield a reduced accuracy.
For measurements of paint or lacquer directly on steel, Fischer's EGAB 1.3 probe can be used. Only measurements on zinc-coated material are permitted with the EDX10.
