Enclosure meets harsh environments head-on

Spelsberg has applied its extreme weather and corrosion resistant Nautic specification to its A-box range. The result is said to be a range of tough, IP65 rated enclosures that combine suitability for harsh environments with the traditional A-box benefit of being extremely easy of use (Plate 11).

The Nautic A-box range is manufactured from a Halogen-free, glassfibre reinforced polycarbonate material which offers protection from impacts, UV and weathering. Unlike some metallic alternatives, the Nautic A-box enclosures will not corrode, making them, it is claimed, ideal for use in the food industry, where washdowns are frequent, and in industries where aggressive chemicals are present.

The range comprises six enclosures with cable termination capacities from 1sq. mm to 35sq. mm. To ensure flexibility, each enclosure has the maximum number of knockouts. All six sizes are supplied with seven or more side knockouts and one in their base. The enclosures are square in shape and this allows for optimum use of installation space and also blends in with the modern installation environment.

Nautic A-box enclosures can be supplied either empty or equipped with Spelsberg's new style "assembly friendly" terminals. These meet the new European Standard and have CCA certification and international approval.

All the terminal types are kept as small as possible to give maximum cable space for fast, convenient and easy installation. The accessibility of the terminals also allows for easier testing. Spelsberg reports that the Nautic A-box terminals can easily be fixed in four different positions within the enclosures, allowing the terminals to be positioned to suit incoming cable. This, it is said, ensures faster and simpler termination of cabling and wiring.
