1,000 litre corrosion test cabinet
Keywords Ascott, Testing, Corrosion, Cabinets
Ascott Analytical Equipment has introduced a 1,000 litre capacity corrosion test cabinet (Plate 9). This latest model - the "S1000t" - is the second cabinet to embody the company's streamlined "high-tech" design concept first seen in the 450-litre "S450t" unit launched earlier this year. The S1000t has been developed for applications demanding larger test pieces or bigger quantities of small sample and is suitable for salt spray, cyclic corrosion and saturation humidity testing.

Ascott informs us that it is quality engineered to ensure a long working life and minimise the cost of ownership. The new cabinet features convenient top-mounted controls and a special 120-litre salt solution reservoir. The latter has a transparent front with 20-litre graduations for quick and easy visual checking.
The S1000t also incorporates an innovative salt fog remote fall-out system, which is fitted as spray and cyclic corrosion versions (Plate 10).

The fall-out system has two 80cm2 collecting vessels, mounted on adjustable arms within the main chamber and linked to two externally located transparent measuring cylinders. This reportedly allows salt fog fall-out to be collected and measured continuously without the inconvenience of having to open the cabinet lid and interrupt testing - often a problem with conventional cabinets. An air purge facility is included to ensure that salt fog is quickly and safely exhausted from the interior of the cabinet before opening the lid. The cabinet's air saturator can be topped-up automatically, if connected to a suitable pressurised water supply, or manually if a pressurised supply is not available.
Ascott reports that it has reinforced its confidence in the longevity of the new cabinet design by supporting the product with a warranty of up to five years. This applies to both the 1,000-litre and the existing 450-litre capacity models. Detailed data sheets on both cabinets are available on request.
