Containment lining protects groundwater against harmful chemicals
Keywords Futura, Linings, Leakage
"Finally a secondary containment lining that forms a seamless barrier to resist leaks", said Dan McBride, Geothane product manager for Future Coatings. The product is said to be a fast-set, spray polyurethane lining that is applied directly over geotextiles to form a seamless barrier against potential leaks in chemical or fuel storage tanks.
"Most containment linings have seams which, over time, can degrade and widen. In the event of a spill these seams might allow hazardous chemicals to seep into the ground-water. The Future Geothane system eliminates the seams to produce a monolithic barrier against ground contamination", commented Mr McBride.
According to the manufacturer, the product is a two-component, fast set, 100 per cent solids elastomer. Once applied, it forms a tough, highly elastic membrane that resists water and chemicals. The fast cure properties allow users to apply the material at lower temperatures and speed production.
This product reportedly may be used as a lining for concrete, steel, geotextile or earthen applications. Since this is a fast set system, contractors are thought to be able to complete a job in less time than conventional PVC systems. As a result, a facility has less down-time during the application and will save on labour costs.
