Dr Fred Shallcross (Plate 1) has been appointed chairman of Galvanizers Association (GA) at the Association's recent Annual General Meeting held at the Royal Aeronautical Society in London. He takes over from Jeremy Woolridge CBE (BE Wedge Holdings Ltd), who stands down after a two-year term of office that has seen further development of the Association.

Dr Shallcross will also represent GA on the board of European General Galvanizers Association (EGGA) - a federation of national associations within Europe. Fred is currently managing director of Hereford Galvanizers Group and has worked within the hot dip galvanizing industry for the past 25 years.

His intentions during his two-year period at office are "to maintain the marketing and technical thrust of our industry through the millennium and beyond".

He also actively supports the environmental improvements the industry is making together with the continuing product development research that GA sponsors.
