This paper discusses his background, his management style and explains his use of unconventional techniques to get the most out of his team.

Practical implications

A divergent viewpoint is offered on how to inspire teams to maximize effectiveness.

Originality/value

Tobin’s stance on issues such as work–life balance, and vision vs strategy has been outlined.
