Thanks to the many colleagues who contributed their time, energy, research, and writing to this volume. Collaborative work among participants in the Fiscal Austerity and Urban Innovation Project and Scenes Project has taken place for many years and in many contexts. Many memos on activities, data for shared downloading, free reports, videos, news coverage, and more are on several websites (www.faui.org, http://www.tnc-newsletter.blogspot.com/, and http://scenes.uchicago.edu/). Contact the participants about possible data and report access if you would like more. We have published over 50 books together in these overlapping projects. This volume is a tribute to the ongoing cross-national research that has been greatly enhanced by these interactions. Related works and download addresses are at the end of Chapter 2.
The various coauthors also recognize the many colleagues, research assistants, and students whose support and engagement have helped to move this research forward at many institutions around the world.
The numerous chapters and pieces here were assembled by the dedicated team at the University of Chicago, especially Daniel Story and Kathy Hamai whose coordination and editing were key. Terry Clark wrote the section introductions.
Specific acknowledgments are in each chapter.
Portions of chapters draw on material in earlier reports. We include with permission material from: Wonho Jang, Terry Clark, Miree Byun. Scenes Dynamics in Global Cities. Seoul: Seoul Development Institute, 2011, Seokho Kim, Korean Journal of Sociology, June 2011. Silver and Clark, Canadian Journal of Sociology, 2013; Silva, Clark, Cabaço International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society, 2013.
