Don Haymes, archivist at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, has encouraged me in this project for 15 years, and provided permission to use Kershner’s correspondence. He and I spent a couple of days digging out all the correspondence between Kershner and the Knight brothers, which was a real eye opener to the extent of the families interconnections. Charles Knight, Frank and Ethel’s second son and Knight’s literary executor, has been wonderful to work with on publishing his father’s work, and provided permission from the estate for publication of Knight’s side of the correspondence. The University of Chicago archivist, Dan Meyer, once again graciously provided permission for using material from the Knight Papers. I also need to thank Elizabeth Howe, archivist in the Western Maryland Room in the Washington County Library, Hagerstown, Maryland, who put together everything she could find on Kee Mar College, where Kershner began his academic career.
